Skier of the Foreign Legion

In early 1940, before the German invasion of France, a part of the French Foreign Legion was sent back from Africa to France.
Here they got a strange new type of uniform.. And skis!
The hardened fighters and experienced desert warriors, suddenly got outfitted as mountain troops. They got snow boots, heavy parkas and snow capes. They were bound for Finland, where the Allies were helping the Finnish soldiers in the fight against the Soviets.
But before the the Legion left to Finland, the war in Finland was over.
But there was another place the legion could use its new gear. The Germans had just invaded Norway.
The Legion got the task of assaulting Narvik, to prevent German ore shipments.
Together with French and Polish mountain units, they fought a veteran german Gebirgsjager regiment.
After 2 weeks of fighting, they succesfully took Narvik!
They then proceeded to pursue the fleeing German troops, but were ordered to return to France, where the German invasion had just begun…
