Description
The “modèle 1936” rifle, also known as the MAS 36, was adopted by the French army in 1936 to replace several older weapons, including the Lebel model 1886/93 and the Berthier system weapons model 07/15M16 and 1892M16. The Manufacture d’armes de Saint-Étienne was the factory that produced these rifles.
The MAS 36 was a bolt-action rifle, chambered for the 7.5 mm French cartridge, and designed to be reliable and robust. It was one of the standard weapons of the French army for many decades, serving mainly during the Second World War and the Indochina War. It was appreciated for its simplicity and reliability on the battlefield.
