Description

Amusing Hobby 35A057 – 1/35 Elefant Schwerer Jagdpanzer Full Interior with Zimmerit and Improved Rear Hatch is a detailed injection-molded plastic model kit of the Sd.Kfz.184 heavy tank destroyer in its upgraded 1944 configuration. The kit combines a complete internal layout with realistically molded Zimmerit, workable individual-link tracks and the rare reworked split rear hatch. Photo-etched and 3D-printed components are also included, making AH35A057 a comprehensive Elefant project for modelers interested in both exterior detail and the vehicle’s unusual internal engineering.

Contexte historique et thème

The Elefant originated from Ferdinand Porsche’s unsuccessful Tiger(P) heavy-tank chassis. These available chassis were converted into heavy tank destroyers armed with the powerful 8.8 cm Pak 43/2 anti-tank gun and initially entered combat in 1943 under the name Ferdinand.

Following the Battle of Kursk and subsequent operations, surviving vehicles were returned for extensive modernization beginning in early 1944. Improvements included a ball-mounted MG 34 in the front hull, a commander’s cupola for improved observation, revised engine-deck protection and the application of Zimmerit anti-magnetic mine paste. The upgraded vehicles became known as Elefant, with the name officially adopted in May 1944.

This kit represents an especially uncommon detail variation: four upgraded vehicles are documented with a two-piece split rear fighting-compartment hatch instead of the usual single large rear door. These vehicles were associated with schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653 on the Eastern Front, making the configuration particularly distinctive for historically focused Elefant builds.

Détails et réalisme des figurines et véhicules

Amusing Hobby provides a complete interior rather than an empty hull. The fighting compartment, powertrain-related areas and other internal components can therefore become a major part of the finished model. The Zimmerit texture is molded directly onto the appropriate exterior surfaces, avoiding the need to reproduce this distinctive coating entirely from scratch.

The improved split rear hatch is newly reworked for this release and provides a visually important difference from standard Elefant kits. Workable individual-link tracks allow the heavy running gear to be posed naturally, while photo-etched and 3D-printed parts add finer details to the build.

Utilisation en diorama et en affichage

AH35A057 is particularly suited to an Eastern Front Elefant scene during 1944. A vehicle positioned on a muddy road, beside woodland, in a temporary maintenance area or during a halted armored movement provides a plausible setting for the rare split-hatch configuration.

The full interior also supports workshop and maintenance displays where access panels and the rear fighting-compartment doors can become part of the composition. Weathered Zimmerit, heavy track wear, mud and dust can emphasize the considerable mass and operational character of the vehicle.

Matériel et personnalisation

This is an unassembled and unpainted 1/35 injection-molded plastic model kit. It includes a complete interior, molded Zimmerit, workable individual-link tracks, photo-etched parts and 3D-printed components. Paint and glue are required separately.

Amusing Hobby also specifies a resin figure as a bonus included only with the first production batch, so its presence should depend on the production run supplied.

The large armor surfaces and Zimmerit provide excellent opportunities for three-color camouflage, fading, dust, mud, restrained chipping and accumulated operational grime.

À qui s'adresse-t-il ?

Amusing Hobby 35A057 is especially suited to experienced WWII armor modelers, Elefant and Ferdinand enthusiasts, interior-detail builders and diorama creators. The combination of a full interior, individual workable tracks and mixed-media components offers substantial scope for a detailed long-form project.
