AK Interactive 11621 – Flesh and Skin Colors Set, officially named Flesh and Skin Colors – The Original Selection, is a dedicated 3Gen acrylic paint set designed for painting realistic skin tones on miniature figures. The set contains six carefully coordinated colors covering deep shadows, intermediate shadows, a basic flesh tone, lighter skin tones, highlights and a reddish glaze for adding warmth to areas such as the cheeks. Each color is supplied in an 18 ml bottle. AK Interactive confirms AK11621 as the current 3Gen version of the earlier AK3010 flesh-painting set.
Historical Context & Theme
Human skin is one of the most demanding elements of miniature figure painting because a convincing result depends on more than applying a single flesh color. Light, shadow, complexion, exposure to the sun and environmental conditions can all influence the appearance of a face and other exposed skin.
AK11621 approaches this challenge with a progressive tonal system. Dark Shadow Flesh and Shadow Flesh establish depth, Base Flesh provides the central complexion tone, while Light Flesh and Highlight Flesh create progressively brighter areas. Reddish Black is included specifically as a cheekbone glaze and can introduce warmer tones into selected areas of the face.
Because the colors can be mixed with one another in different proportions, the set is not restricted to one fixed complexion. AK Interactive specifically designed the range so painters can modify the base tone and create variations appropriate to different figures and lighting conditions.
Figure / Vehicle Details & Realism
The six-color arrangement provides a logical workflow for faces, hands and other exposed areas. Painters can begin with Base Flesh before developing recessed areas with Shadow Flesh and Dark Shadow Flesh. Light Flesh and Highlight Flesh can then be applied to raised facial features such as the forehead, nose, cheekbones, chin and fingers.
AK11406 Reddish Black (Cheekbone Glaze) provides an additional finishing option rather than simply another stage of the light-to-dark progression. Used in thin applications, it can add warmth and subtle color variation to cheeks and other areas where a completely uniform flesh tone would appear unnatural.
The palette can be used on military figures, civilian miniatures, fantasy subjects and other character models. AK Interactive categorizes the set for figures as well as civil, fantasy and military applications.
Diorama & Display Use
AK11621 is particularly useful for figure-focused dioramas where faces and hands remain highly visible. Military crews, infantry, civilians and individual character figures can all benefit from the structured shadow-to-highlight palette.
The set works across different scales, from compact 1/72 and 1/48 figures to highly detailed 1/35, 1/16 and larger display miniatures. On smaller figures, stronger but controlled tonal contrast can help facial detail remain readable, while larger scales allow smoother transitions and additional glazing.
Because the six paints are designed to work together, they can also help maintain consistent skin tones across several figures within the same diorama while still allowing individual variation through mixing.
Material & Customization
AK11621 contains six paints from the AK Interactive 3Gen acrylic range, each supplied in an 18 ml bottle.
The paints can be layered, blended and mixed to develop custom flesh tones. Darker colors can reinforce deep shadows around facial features, while lighter tones can gradually build highlights. Reddish Black can be diluted for controlled glazing to introduce subtle warmth without covering the underlying flesh work.
The system can be adapted to different painting styles, from straightforward base-shadow-highlight techniques to more advanced layered transitions and glazing.
Who It’s For
AK11621 is designed for miniature figure painters, military modelers, fantasy painters and diorama builders looking for a coordinated palette dedicated to flesh and skin.
It is particularly useful for painters who want the essential shadow, base and highlight stages available in one set rather than selecting individual colors separately.
