Description

Takom 2213 – 1/35 le.S.P.W. (2 cm) Sd.Kfz. 250/9 Ausf. A is a detailed plastic model kit of the early-hull version of Germany’s light armored reconnaissance half-track. Based on the compact Sd.Kfz. 250 chassis, the 250/9 added an open rotating turret armed with a 2 cm cannon and coaxial machine gun, providing reconnaissance units with significantly greater firepower. Takom reproduces the distinctive faceted Ausf. A hull with a complete interior, movable suspension, workable individual-link tracks, clear and photo-etched parts, four marking options and a driver figure.

Historical Context & Theme

The Sd.Kfz. 250 family was developed as a light armored half-track for reconnaissance, command and specialist duties within German armored formations. Its compact dimensions and tracked rear running gear provided better cross-country mobility than conventional armored cars while retaining useful road performance.

The Sd.Kfz. 250/9 was created specifically as an armored reconnaissance vehicle. The early Ausf. A configuration mounted an open-topped rotating turret armed with a 2 cm KwK 38 cannon and a coaxial MG 34 machine gun, giving reconnaissance patrols considerably more offensive capability than the basic personnel-carrier versions.

The Ausf. A used the original complex Sd.Kfz. 250 hull, formed from numerous angled armor plates and recognizable by its heavily faceted appearance. During 1943 this construction was replaced by the simplified “Neu” hull, which reduced the number of armor plates and made production easier.

Figure / Vehicle Details & Realism

Takom 2213 provides a complete interior, an important feature on a vehicle with multiple opening hatches and an exposed fighting compartment. All main hatches can be displayed either open or closed, allowing the internal detail to remain visible in a finished model.

The suspension is designed to remain movable, while the individual-link tracks are also workable. This gives modelers greater freedom when positioning the vehicle on uneven terrain and helps the running gear conform naturally to a diorama base.

Clear components and photo-etched parts provide additional refinement for smaller details. Four marking options are supplied, together with one driver figure, adding a useful human element to either a standalone display or a larger reconnaissance scene.

Diorama & Display Use

The Sd.Kfz. 250/9 Ausf. A is particularly suited to WWII reconnaissance dioramas. Its compact half-track chassis works naturally on narrow roads, forest tracks, village streets and temporary observation positions.

A scene showing the vehicle halted while the crew surveys the terrain can make effective use of the open turret and interior. It can also accompany an armored column, operate alongside other reconnaissance vehicles or appear near a forward command position.

Eastern Front and European campaign environments are both suitable when the selected camouflage, markings and accompanying figures correspond to the specific unit and period represented.

Material & Customization

Takom 2213 is an unassembled and unpainted 1/35 injection-molded plastic model kit. It includes workable individual-link tracks, movable suspension, clear components and photo-etched parts. One driver figure and decals for four marking options are supplied. Glue and paint are required separately.

The angular armor surfaces provide excellent opportunities for camouflage modulation, dust, mud, restrained chipping and operational wear. The exposed running gear can receive additional earth and grime, while opening the hatches allows detailed interior painting to become an important part of the finished project.

Who It’s For

Takom 2213 is ideal for WWII German vehicle modelers, reconnaissance-vehicle enthusiasts and diorama builders looking for an early Sd.Kfz. 250 variant with extensive detail.

The complete interior, workable running gear and mixed-media components make it particularly attractive to experienced modelers who enjoy combining vehicle construction, interior painting, figures and realistic terrain.
